An animal protection organization is throwing back the curtains on the West Coast’s largest distributor of eggs, releasing a hidden-camera video that shows chickens being mistreated by handlers and locked in cages so small the birds can’t spread their wings.Los Angeles Times

This is pretty horrifying, these types of exposes make me want to become a vegetarian. For 3.5 seconds at least, then I realize that I’m a carnivore and get back to my habits. Even though, the video talked about in this Los Angeles Times article is sickening. Chicken and egg farms are awful places, living in a box, artificial light, short lives used to produce egg after egg in disgusting conditions.

Use services like LocalHarvest.org to find farmers markets and locally grown produce in sustainable farms close to you!

My suggestion support clean and ethical harvesting of crops and livestock. Of course it’s not convenient, nor cheap, but spending your money in such a way is worth the piece of mind. If enough people show they’d invest more in their food for better conditions then we may just show the cheap and disgusting food market it would profit from cleaning up it’s act. We can hope :)
